Achievements of Czech and Belgian presidencies in EU environmental policy area in comparative perspective

Diploma thesis "Achievements of Czech and Belgian presidencies in EU environmental policy area in comparative perspective" deals with the presidency of the Council of the European Union. Specifically, this qualitative comparative case study draws a comparison between the achievements of first Czech presidency in 2009 and latest Belgian presidency in 2010 in the area of environmental policy. High level of measures in this field represents one of the important characteristics of the European Union in this period of time. Despite the fact that both examined presidencies took place during the economic crisis, they could not forget to deal with environmental problems in order to maintain the EU's leading position in environmental policy and related issues. Germany's approach to environmental protection focuses on waste management

The aim of the bachelor work is to evaluate the approach of Germany to environmental protection and take into consideration, as to which extent the principles declared in international documents; especially in the documents of the Organization of United Nations and of the European Union, are included. This is initally focussed on the waste management sphere. The basic political documents, e.g. the policy of environmental protection, the waste management strategy, the basic laws including institutional arrangement are consecutively analyzed. The comparison with reputable international documentation dealing with sustainable development has been carried out. The example of the approach of the business sector is illustrated. The bachelor work demonstrates the basic analysis of information sources and other findings found in the course of elaboration.

The development and orientation of the Czech environmental politics in the historical and geopolitical context

The diploma essay named The development and orientation of the Czech environmental politics in the historical and geopolitical context aims to introduce in detail the forms of the Czech environmental politics since 1990. The first chapter of the essay provides readers with the theory of environmental politics and sustainable development, for example with different types of environmental instruments, actors or goals. Three following chapters are grounded in this theory and in detail introduce the main pillars of the environmental politics of the Czech Republic, or rather CSFR. The development of the Czech environmental politics is in the essay divided into a few phases, the accession to the EU represents the main milestone. The fourth chapter summarizes the development of the Czech environmental politics, compares it with the environmental politics of the EU and offers the evaluation of the current form of the Czech environmental politics.
